A stylized silhouette of a mountain range with a curved line underneath, resembling a graph.

Platformonomics TGIF is a weekly roll-up of links, comments on those links, and perhaps a little too much tugging on my favorite threads.

No newsletter next week. Still planning a post on just how much CAPEX negative cash flow company Oracle has signed up to spend.

My Writing

Meta AI: Founder Mode or “Win Now” Mode?

Group photo of the Meta Superintelligence Labs team, featuring four individuals in Phoenix Suns basketball uniforms against a purple background.

A post on Meta’s AI rebuild:

Meta’s frantic AI moves have big pro sports franchise “win now” vibes. The owner is fed up and wants a championship. This year.

The team had a promising start last season but ended up 6-10, finishing with a (Llama) 4 game losing streak.

Existential Threats: Forget Aligning AI, We Must Align McKinsey

Tweet discussing the potential of LLMs providing consulting services, with logos for McKinsey & Company and SuperGrok displayed.

Not Available in Europe: Air Conditioning

A graph comparing the increase in mortality risk due to outdoor temperatures for various city pairings in Europe and the U.S., highlighting the need for improved air conditioning in Europe.

I continue to believe the world’s best business opportunity is bringing 7-11 to Europe. Multiple deep moats: ice, large-sized drinks, air conditioning, and open around the clock. The Europeans have been nonchalant about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, but would no doubt treat a 7-11 incursion as a truly existential threat.
