Abstract graphic of a mountain range with a curved line representing a slope.

Platformonomics TGIF is a weekly roll-up of links, comments on those links, and perhaps a little too much tugging on my favorite threads.

Useful Idiots, Fellow Travelers and Unregistered Foreign Agents: Oracle Part II

Headline discussing Tencent's lease of 100,000 chips from Oracle to enhance its AI initiatives, mentioning competition with ByteDance and Alibaba.

We really can’t expect Oracle to abide by the spirit or letter of the export ban when the Ellisons have so many bills to pay, between Bronny’s debt-fueled Hollywood empire building and Larry’s AI Hail Mary?

Bringing Back Respect and Responsibility

Headline about the resignation of a Tennessee prison chief due to backlash from a failed execution.

We live in a world where seemingly no amount of incompetence or ignominy triggers departure from public office. Whatever the problem, there is always someone else to blame. Text discussing the rising cost of heating oil in Maine due to recent price increases, with details on average costs and implications for homeowners.

Perhaps those responsible for Maine’s “idiosyncratic, inconsistent, and innumerate energy strategy, aka “none-of-the-above” ” can join the Accountability List. Failing to ensure cheap and abundant energy is about as bad as it gets in public policy.

Will require some serious creativity to blame data centers here.

Do As We Say, Not As We Do: The New York Times on Inflation, Affordability and Greedy Corporations

Notification about subscription rate increase for All Access Family plan effective November 7, 2026, from $30 to $34 every 4 weeks.

A 13% annualized price increase. No wonder inflation is sticky.

EU Insanity: The New SaaS (Software as Absolute s-t)

'Absolute s-t': Criticism of the EU's Microsoft Teams alternative highlighted by officials' reviews.

Hypothetical?

Headline article about a government proposal addressing issues in private equity investment, featuring the journalist Jason Zweig.

Ask not what private equity can do for you, but what you can do for private equity!

I may need to shift from software migration alerts to portfolio migration alerts.
